Available in 2 Sizes, Signature Series by Kaneko Kohyo
Giyaman Lacquer Brown Oval Plate
Kaneko Kohyo was founded in 1921 by Ito Kohyo and began on a small mountain near Toki City in Gifu Prefecture. Originally Japan’s largest producer of tokkuri (sake serving flasks), Kaneko Kohyo’s history and traditions hark back to the much-admired local Mino-yaki pottery styles. While preserving these historic techniques and styles, Kaneko Kohyo now strives to create new items that meet and exceed the expectations of discerning consumers seeking originality, beauty, and functionality for their dining and entertaining experiences.
In recent years, Kaneko Kohyo’s products have been selected for use by some of Japan and Europe’s finest chefs and luxury haute couture brands. Kaneko Kohyo continues to create a wider range of original, fine tableware that enhances cuisine and table settings across the globe.
Giyaman is a Japanese loanword referring to “glassware,” created during the Edo period in the 17th century and commonly used until Meiji era in late 1800’s. Kaneko Kohyo’s Giyaman series is made up of signature porcelain tableware which truly highlights the artisan’s special craftmanship. Its glaze embodies both the lustrous characteristics of lacquer and the glowing radiance of glass. Under a spotlight, this tableware’s resonant coloring and traditional Japanese chrysanthemum design enhance the cuisine being served, revealing the true value of Giyaman.
Giyaman porcelain became widely known during its use at a banquet in September 2012 at the Palace of Versailles in France, hosted by one of the world’s most famous Champagne brands, Don Perignon. VIP’s from around the world were invited to this “Dinner of the Century,” catered for by Chef Piege, one of the top chefs in Paris. The finishing dessert was presented on Giyaman tableware which Chef Piege selected as he commented, “I ordered additional sets for this diner party, as I cannot imagine my beloved desserts being served on anything but Giyaman.”
Giyaman "Lacquer Brown"
"Lacquer brown" is an artisanal expression of the brown hue of real lacquer ware that's been highly admired in Japan. Having such lacquer-like color, the item's radiant finish means it is often mistaken for glassware because of its Chrysanthemum-like shape and shiny glaze. The Giayaman Lacquer Brown series has a gorgeous, tranquil appearance which is used by many culinary professionals, and it can be equally stunning as a part of your daily table setting.
