Miyama

Miyama as a company dates back to 1977, but the traditions they employ are steeped in local history. Mizunami City in Gifu Prefecture, where they are located, was considered the global number one producer of porcelain for a good part of the twentieth century. They take pride in their implementation of technology in conjunction with their more traditional approaches and are committed to continuing to grow as the industry develops and changes.

Miyama uses unique molds and methods of crafting their tableware, but one of the most key factors is the high temperature kiln that they use to fire the pieces. By firing in a high temperature kiln, the porcelain clay and the glaze are harmonized and vitrified, creating an unmistakable luster and providing a stain-resistant, easy-to-clean surface; a perfect marriage of beauty and functionality.

Mino-yaki Earthenware

Mino-yaki earthenware is specialty pottery produced in the Mino Region (around current Toki City) of Gifu prefecture which began in the 7th century. Mino-yaki continues to adapt to modern lifestyles while preserving its history and tradition. One of the signature characteristics of Mino-yaki earthenware is its diversity. Mino-yaki does not adhere to a single form, as it has over 15 registered types of traditional handicraft in Japan.

Gaku Mame-Zara

Despite their size these small plates make quite the impact on your table setting. “Mame-zara” literally translates to bean plate, but these tiny dishes can be used for a variety of purposes. Japanese use them for condiments, pickles, tapas or amuse bouche. Miyama puts their meticulous artistry on display with these small plates as each design is hand carved and shaped prior to firing resulting in stunning detail.

They are available in three designs. Kikyo Flower (Japanese Bellflower) in white, Hachiryo (Eight Petaled Flower) in Torinoko Ivory, and Sekka (Snowflake) or snowflake in blue-white.
