Mino-yaki Earthenware

Mino-yaki earthenware is specialty pottery produced in the Mino Region (around current Toki City) of Gifu prefecture which began in the 7th century. Mino-yaki continues to adapt to modern lifestyles while preserving its history and tradition. One of the signature characteristics of Mino-yaki earthenware is its diversity. Mino-yaki does not adhere to a single form, as it has over 15 registered types of traditional handicraft in Japan.

Kohiki Katakuchi Spouted Matcha Bowl by HYOZANGAMA

This series is presented by SALIU, a brand by Nature Ave. SALIU is a collection of fine tableware made in Gifu, Japan.

HYOZANGAMA has existed in Mino for hundreds of years, and were given an official stamp certificate permitting them to continue producing pottery as high praise for their skills from presenting their pottery to the historical Japanese warlord, Nobunaga Oda.  The high level of skill and sensibility developed over its long history has been continuously refined to match modern styles.

The Kohiki Katakuchi Matcha Spouted Bowl features a stunning white glaze (Kohiki) that add depth and character to its design. This charmingly shaped bowl features a subtle side spout that allows for preparing matcha tea to be poured into other bowls, but can also serve as a matcha bowl in itself due to its optimal size and shape. With white decorative clay at its base and white glaze applied on top prior to firing, the delicate interplay of the glaze, dark speckles, and very subtle hues of light pink, makes each piece unique, enhancing its charm and beauty.  It represents the warmth and gentle texture of the clay, maturing its expression and changing through continued use, deepening its unique character.
