Classic-style Donabe
Supply of donabe is currently very limited due to the high demand in Japan. Each piece is carefully hand-crafted, so it takes time to produce.
We receive small batches at different times, and once something sells out, it may take a while—sometimes longer than 6 months—before it becomes available again. If you see a piece you like, it’s best to secure it while it’s in stock.
For items that are currently out of stock, you can also sign up for restock notifications using the “Email me when available” button on each product page.
Our classic-style donabes are versatile, all-purpose clay pots and can be used for a variety of dishes from soups to stews and the traditional hot pot. You would be hard pressed to find a Japanese kitchen without one. Each of our donabe is handcrafted by local artisans in Iga, Japan and therefore, will differ from piece to piece. These nuances are part of the unique beauty of each product and what we cherish most in our pieces.
One time, one meeting. This is the Japanese philosophy of ichigo-ichie. We approach each interaction with true sincerity and treasure it as if it were the last. As a pottery producer, Nagatani-en makes donabe with special attention to the uniqueness that’s inherent in each and every piece because this phenomena can only occur once-in-a-lifetime. These rare experiences can never be replicated and that’s the beauty of it.
