Donabe Cooking brings people together. On September 24, 2022, Naoko (a.k.a. Mrs. Donabe) had a special collaboration event with New York Times Cooking in Los Angeles. It was titled, Cook with Us in Los Angeles: Donabe Essentials with Mrs. Donabe, and it was a great success!
At this sold-out event, led by The New York Time’s Genevieve Ko, the guests were welcomed with make-your-own matcha drinks (featuring Tsujiri Matcha Milk Powder), then Naoko demonstrated three Japanese home-style dishes, including two donabe recipes. And, the guests got to not only learn about donabe cooking, but got to taste all the dishes at the end.
Here are the three dishes Naoko demonstrated:
Broccoli Rabe in Sesame & Karashi Sauce
Mixed Mushroom Rice (made in double-lid donabe rice cooker, Kamado-san)
Salmon & Daikon in Garlic Miso Butter Sauce (made in classic-style donabe, Hakeme)
We also had a mini TOIRO pop-up shop a the event where the guests could pick up some of our favorite donabe picks and top-quality Japanese tableware and ingredients.
We want to thank everyone who came to participate in the event and brought so much enthusiasm and happiness to us. And, big thanks to the amazing team of New York Times Cooking for making this special collaboration happen!
Happy Donabe Life.
