Situated in Mino City, celebrated for its pottery traditions, Marumo-Takagi has been a producer of ceramics since their founding in 1887. They utilize some of the most established traditions, but blend them seamlessly with modern manufacturing techniques. The quality of their products is well recognized as they are proud purveyors to the Japanese Imperial Family as well as to Japanese embassies all around the world.
Their designs are inspired by the beauty of nature, and particularly how the interpretation of that beauty shifts through the changing of the seasons. The legendary artist Kitaouji Rosanjin once said, “A good dish on the right plate is like a beauty in a kimono.” This is the heart of Marumo-Takagi’s goal; bringing together the artistry of Japanese ceramics and “washoku”, Japanese food. Their pieces are sure to bring this Japanese elegance to your table.

Sabi-Kairabi Small Donburi Bowl
This donburi bowl has a slightly smaller form factor and features a unique micro-cracked glaze that lends this piece real “wabi-sabi” appeal. “Kairagi” is a term used in Japanese ceramics to describe a rough glaze finish, achieved by brushing fine earth onto the glaze to ensure cracking and the ensuing kannyu pattern. This term is derived from sharkskin or stingray skin and the inspiration can be clearly seen in this exquisite piece. The soft beige tone of the clay can also be seen peeking through, adding yet another element to this distinct piece of tableware.
