Miyama as a company dates back to 1977, but the traditions they employ are steeped in local history. Mizunami City in Gifu Prefecture, where they are located, was considered the global number one producer of porcelain for a good part of the twentieth century. They take pride in their implementation of technology in conjunction with their more traditional approaches and are committed to continuing to grow as the industry develops and changes.

Miyama uses unique molds and methods of crafting their tableware, but one of the most key factors is the high temperature kiln that they use to fire the pieces. By firing in a high temperature kiln, the porcelain clay and the glaze are harmonized and vitrified, creating an unmistakable luster and providing a stain-resistant, easy-to-clean surface; a perfect marriage of beauty and functionality.

Mino-yaki Earthenware

Mino-yaki earthenware is specialty pottery produced in the Mino Region (around current Toki City) of Gifu prefecture which began in the 7th century. Mino-yaki continues to adapt to modern lifestyles while preserving its history and tradition. One of the signature characteristics of Mino-yaki earthenware is its diversity. Mino-yaki does not adhere to a single form, as it has over 15 registered types of traditional handicraft in Japan.

Hakuji Amuse Ware

Designed after the lives and elements in the nature, these playful pieces are perfect additions to bring extra joy to your table. Available in six designs, you can serve amuse bouche, condiments, sauce, etc., in these small artistic pieces. At Miyama, to produce white porcelain, they apply redox firing at a temperature of about 2,450F (1,340C) degrees. In this process, glass components melt and become solid as the temperature decreases. The result is the crisp and velvety white texture. It's almost translucent yet "comfortably white" so the food plated in each piece can stand out beautifully.
